MORE ABOUT THE MUSIC

Because of the magical role music plays in this adaptation, the music is a central focus of this production. Producing the music is easily done by most groups who wish to stage the play. Karaoke-style tracks are provided for the instrumentals and are included with the production kit. Producers of the show will also have access to 10 "demo" tracks that come with the perusal kit. These tracks are of all the sung music with recorded vocals - useful for the rehearsal process and practice guidance. The score provides vocal performance opportunities for many soloists as well as for the entire ensemble. This production was first staged by a children's theater whose participants were of the average age of 13 years (some as young as 7 and others as old as 16). All were able to sing their parts with the recorded accompaniment. The vocal music has been performed by professionals as well, to even greater effect.

This original score (it's not the Disney version) has been richly orchestrated using symphonic, guitar, and percussion digital samples, as well as exotic synthesized sound and incidental music that enhances the story's magical aura.  All accompaniments are recorded as .mp3 tracks, playable from CD, computer software (such as iTunes), or mp3 players, providing a ready-made, accompaniment for performances and rehearsals.

Because the substantive music plays such an important role, employment of a musical director or a person with a strong musical background is recommended for the rehearsal process as well as for cuing and balance supervision during performances. For teaching purposes, and for guidance in the application of harmonies, timings & cues, a piano/vocal score of the music (94 pages) is included with the full production package.

The piano score is a complete rendering of the basic music of the recorded tracks and could be used to accompany a performance without the use of the tracks if that is what is desired by the producing entity. Also, enterprising, creative musicians are welcome to add a live layer to the tracks using the piano score, or play along with the piano if the tracks are not used. Much of the musical magic, however, lies in the recorded orchestrations (Band or orchestra leaders PLEASE NOTE: at present there are no instrumental scores or parts available for your ensemble, as the provided tracks are the intended accompaniment. Again, live instrumental players, if employed, can work from the piano score and be 'conducted' by the tracks if they are used).

More detailed information about the implementation of the music/audio component is included in the script. To sample some of the music click the icon below.
